General Description

The Library Technical Services Student Assistant performs technical processing of Library material in an accurate manner in order to provide logical, timely access to library holdings for students, faculty, and staff and to assist the regularly employed Technical Services staff members in their duties.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)

Perform physical processing of library materials in a timely, accurate manner.

Keep an accurate record of work performed so the Library may maintain accurate statistics.

Support Technical Services staff as needed to process Interlibrary Loan requests.

Install, update, and troubleshoot software on Technical Services computers.

Assist in other duties as required.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

Minimum Education/Experience

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.

OR

Current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force and frequently exert up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: This position requires the person to frequently move about the library to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to colleagues, students, faculty, staff, internal and external customers to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to operate a computer and other library equipment.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to occasionally use upper and lower body to exert force up to 50 pounds to push, pull, grasp, and/or lift books, materials, or equipment.

This position requires the person to position self to access books, materials, or equipment that may be above head or ground level.

  1. VISUAL ACUITY: This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

  2. WORKING CONDITIONS This position performs the essential functions in an indoor, classroom or office setting.
